Welcome Richard Jorgensen to DPB

Richard Jorgensen, one of the ‘quiet pioneers’, who found that overexpression of a gene can surprisingly lead to gene silencing, and who coined the term ‘cosuppression’, joined our department as Adjunct Staff Member and Advancement Consultant. His work laid the basis for the discovery of RNAi, which was honored with a Nobel Prize for Carnegie’s Andy Fire and Craig Mellon. Besides his many scientific achievements, he led the flagship plant science journal The Plant Cell as Editor in Chief. He was elected a AAAS Fellow in 2005 and was awarded the Martin Gibbs Medal by the American Society of Plant Biologists in 2007 for his “pioneering work leading to the discovery of RNAi”.
